ON THE BACK BURNER

My favorite local event is this week end. The Wooden Boat Festival. It is the largest wooden boat gathering in the US. Over 200 wooden boats are registered. They are beautiful, well loved and taken care of wooden boats. And the visitors are here to view them. I haven't seen so many people since I left Chicago. Some people just have a love affair with these wooden boats. This is the first festival since Covid, so those who follow wooden boats are here to  catch up. My favorite part of the festival is the last day when at a certain time, mid day, the boats sail out. It is called, The Sail Out. Just picture hundreds of wooden boats sailing out of the harbor, one followed by another , until they are all in the bay, sailing toward Vancouver.  Visitors to the festival walk the narrow walk ways between the boats and some owners do let you come aboard to see the details of the boat . I waited to go on my train trip until the festival was over. That's how special it is.
