ON THE BACK BURNER

Dixie loves my sons wood shed. To get into it, she has to step over the lawn mower, belly crawl under the lumber, and from then  on,I can't see her. So I really don't know what she is doing. All I know is that when she comes out, she is one happy dog. Her mouth has a ring of dirt around it and when she shakes off , like Pig Pen in Peanuts, a cloud of dust sprays off of her body. Then she takes a nap. Her eye sight is getting more limited and I wonder how she guides herself when she gets in that dark hole of lumber. She does follow my voice and I usually stay where I can see her come out of the shed. When I see her walking into a tree, I call out" over here, over here" and she adjusts her route . In the house, she will  look where she thinks I am. When a kid comes to my door, she will bark, but look not at the door. When I have a treat for her, I hold it right under her nose, or she misses taking it.  I tell people that I am her seeing eye person. We are lucky to have each other.
