ON THE BACK BURNER

I just decided to list the women that we honored on our wall hanging. I got a few emails and a few FaceBook request to identify the women. Then, I promise, to start thinking of next years County  Fair. On the front of each placket( is this a word? ) we printed their picture on fabric. On the back we printed their bio.  I will just  give the highlights here of their accomplishments)

  1. Rosa Parks ( Pivotal role in the Montgomery bus boycott. Congress honored her as the " first lady of civil rights)

2.Greta Thunberg (Environmental activist who challenged world leaders to take immediate action for climate mitigation)

  1. Jane Goodall( Primatologist and anthropologist. Expert on the study of social and family interaction of wild chimpanzees )
  2. Helen Keller(political and social activist and supporter of women's right to vote.. She was a co- founder of the ACLU and a contributor to the NAACP.She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1964)
  3. Vandana Shiva ( physicist and social activist from India.Her activism is associated with the anti- GMO movement)
  4. Winona LaDuke ( known for her work on tribal land claims and preservation.  Shehelped found the Indigenous Women's Network to increase visibility and participation of native women  in the political process) 
  5. Wangari Maathai( Kenyan social environmental and political activist . First African woman to win a Nobel Peace Prize)
  6. Maya Angelou(A memoirist,poet and civil rights activist)
  7. Oprah Winfry(Awarded the Presidential Medal of Honor, The Jean Hershall Humanitarian Award, Golden Globe Awards, Tony Awards. She founded a charitable community grassroots organization to educate and empower women and children.)
  8. Malala Yousafzai( Pakistani activist for female education and 2014 Nobel peace prize laureate. She is the symbol of the fight for girls' education )
  9. Dolly Parton ( philanthropist and business woman. Her Imagination Library is a gift giving program that mails free books to children from birth to kindergarten. She has donated millions of dollars to fund pediatric infectious disease research and Moderna's Covid 19 vaccine.)
  10. Ruth Bader Ginsberg(( Our Wonder Woman .and role model. Second woman to serve as justice on the USSupreme Court.)
  11. Billy Jean King( Legend tennis champion and social activist.  She fought for equal prize money in men and women's games. She was a crusader for social justice.In 2009 she received the Presidential medal of honor)
  12. the last frame is a mirror where the person who looks in it sees themselves as capable of making a difference.

Don't quite know how this got to me but it was on the top line of my computer (not in email) But I really enjoyed it. I truly admire you.
