ON THE BACK BURNER

I hit the jack  pot in yard sales. Except, it was an estate sale. That removes it from the garage and yard, to inside a house. Very upscale. The property was beyond a winding ,single lane, rutted road .Spaced acres away ,from each other , were a few impressive country homes, with horses in fields. At the front door of the sale house, we had to take off our shoes. Which was OK, because the floors were heated. The house was Crate and Barrel with  Dansk. I have no idea who the owners were, if they were divorcing, down sizing, or died. The house had everything , from a designated craft room, to a study, to a room that only held Christmas decorations. It was a materialistic persons dream come true. I remarked that they had everything but a boat, but my son said that there was a boat ,too. And all of the clothes were coveted Patagonia, Land's End or Eileen Fisher. For $ 38 , I have enough Patagonia jackets, shirts, hat and sweaters to share with my daughters. I am a happy camper. Then to lunch , which was also exciting. We usually choose a restaurant, order carry out and then drive to the water front. That is what we did today, also. We could see what looked like a large ship. Then we looked again because the ship was turning , which was very unusual, now facing us. Then it kept turning ,so we could see it in profile. We were using field glasses to watch,  but  the ship was so large and close ,that we didn't need glasses. There were 6 tugs around the ship, guiding it .Because my son sails, he has this app on his cell phone that tells him what boats are in the water,or something like that. This was no regular ship. This was a military aircraft carrier, with planes on it, and the tugs were Coast Guard vessels. We could actually see the sailers on the deck. Looking it up, it was a Nimitz Nuclear Aircraft carrier, number 68, the largest aircraft carrier ever built. It probably had 500 sailers on board. That is one big ship and I feel so protected now. !
