ON THE BACK BURNER

I do like self help books. I pick them up at the Goodwill store every now and then. I have one now called"  Simplify Your Life". Decluttering seems the topic of the year.I think sheltering from Covid and spending so much time at home, has given us the time to declutter. Who had time to do it before . I have reached the point where I have no more to give up. My spice drawer is free of outdated spices. I stopped buying the large size of mixed greens. I never did finish a whole container of greens before the bottom was soggy. Maybe I am finally learning how to shop for one. I don't buy a 3 lb bag of onions, or a 5 lb sack of potatoes. Weeks ago, I bought a 1 lb box of sugar and I still have half of it left. Making Challah calls for 1/2 cup of sugar. That leaves a lot of sugar in the canister for the next time I bake. I only have my favorite cookbooks. Here in PT, there are these attractive free standing lending library kiosks, in front of some houses. Sometimes there are two on a block. When you walk by, and look on the shelf, you might see a book that you want to read. you take it and when you finish, either bring it back, or put in one of yours. Right now, I have a David Sedaris book that caught my eye when I was walking Dixie. My grandson just brought me a book that he took out of a kiosk and thought I might like . It's not my usual read,  but  I will try  it. It's a Cowboy Western mystery. This self help book is really very dated. It talks about check books and answering machines . This is from before on line banking and voice mail. Maybe we should declutter all the way back to when we got milk delivered, only your neighbor had a TV, and you got S & H green stamps when you shopped at the A & P. I am not sure how I got from simplifying my life to the lending library system in PT. Is this called free association ,stream of consciousness or unfocused.
