ON THE BACK BURNER

Some things, even if you think they are a new concept, are old. I ordered my groceries, today, on line. The on line is definitely new.  But I use to order my groceries in 1954 ,by my wall telephone.  Now, I could pay extra for delivery, but I park in the grocery lot , in a designated place and some nice person ,in a mask, brings them to me. In 1954, I didn't pay for delivery, but I tipped  the kid who delivered my order,on his 2 wheeler bike. He brought the groceries right into my kitchen. I would really like that service today. I usually put my bags of groceries in a little red wagon that I have and pull the wagon to my steps, where I then carry the bags into the kitchen and unpack the bags. When I do my own shopping, I bring my reusable bags. I noticed, on my receipt  today ,that I was charged 4 cents for each bag. I use to like the brown paper bags from the grocery. We would cover text books, wrap packages for mailing, even use it for gift wrapping when we ran out of the colored funny papers. Now I have little use for a collection of brown bags. Too bad that they are not like the deposit on pop bottles. Do they even have deposits any more on bottles. Our kids use to earn a few dollars by returning bottles that we picked up along the road when we were at our cottage. This supplemented the money they made by picking blueberries   at Farmer Melon's Blueberry farm. How did I get from brown bags to  blueberries ? Must be my stream of unconsciousness.
