ON THE BACK BURNER

I got this message from my son this morning. "11 o'clock. Rain gear". At 11 , I was ready ,in my rain gear. We drove to a preserve that has the same status as being on the National Registry. You can live on it, but you have to stay on the original foot print. We walked on a carpet of fallen oak leaves, came to a rushing creek and saw salmon spawning. That was where we were going. So fascinating and so sad at the same time, that  now that those hard working salmon, trying to swim upstream  will soon die. They never stopped trying. They would stop for a few seconds, as if they were trying for a second wind, then start again. We couldn't think of any other species that spawned and died like these salmon. We watched for awhile,  but we didn't feel good about it. I guess we were giving the salmon our human qualities and this process is part of their DNA.Sorry salmon. It has been raining hard ,off and on, for two days. We had our Sunday supper with only four of us, in my pod and it was nice and cozy. My son picked up pizza and we 4 relaxed and told pet stories. A lot of laughs. Seems that all of our pets were true characters. Maybe it had something to do with their owners.
