ON THE BACK BURNER

My day went from making challah, to going to my first PT exercise class, to mowing the back 40, to delivering a challah to my grandson's apartment. Last week I decided that my challahs were too pale, so I put turmeric in the dough to make them look more eggy. Everyone liked it so now, my regular challah will have turmeric included. My exercise class was different from any that I have ever attended. There was no leader. When you walk into the room, there are about 30 index cards with exercises printed on them. You pick 3 or 4 cards, depending on how many people show up for class. The exercise is described on the card and the number of times that you repeat it, or the length of time that you do it. You sit in a circle and one by one, you lead the class for the exercise that you have a card for. At first I thought that I would run rings around everyone in the class, but after doing 12 repetitions of an exercise, everyone is equal. Everyone was welcoming and although the exercises are very basic, it is worth it to get into a routine and consistency of exercising. I love mowing. I push, huff and puff, but I get a real sense of accomplishment doing it.  And everything looks so green and smells so good, that it hits all of the senses. I took Dixie in the car with me when I brought my grandson his challah. She is getting so much better about being in the car. Her seat did the trick. She gets in it and feels protected. I hadn't  given thought to the fact that her getting blind makes her very insecure. The jump seat  helps contain her and she just snuggles down and stays put.So, challah made and delivered, exercise done, yard looks great, Dixie did good, I need Tylenol .
