Today ,my congregation had a Zoom talent show.It was wonderful. We had talent that went from a stand up comic who sat down for the delivery, to a reading of
a love story, to music. I loved every minute of it. But what I loved best was that it was hamish. That is a Yiddish word for homelike, simple, comfortable. I got to listen and see people that I haven’t
seen in 13 months. I got to laugh with them. I got to applaud their talent..The only thing that I couldn’t do is to give and get hugs from them. Our congregation is unique. Many congregations that say they are welcoming, that might be so, but we embrace,
we hug, then we hug again. We envelop. It was , that you walked in our door and we took you right in. We were and we will again be the congregation that is hamish. And that ,along with the joy of the talent and the smiling faces on Zoom ,is what made this
so special for me. Here’s to life after Covid when we all come together again, in person, to celebrate our specialness as a congregation.
