ON THE BACK BURNER

After a beautiful, sunny, spring day yesterday, I woke up to the usual rainy, grey day that is more common to the NW. I checked the weather temp in Venice against my temperature here in  Port Townsend, and they were pretty similar. I bet that my  friends in Venice are layering on the same kind of clothes that I wear every day. Just exchange flip flops with socks to rain boots with socks and we are twins. I had read  that there is a high depression rate here in the NW. I don’t find it depressing at all. There is nature all around to watch, sometimes you can see a mountain through the clouds. The trees are ever green.Little nameless birds seem to love the day brings. They are moving and chirping and pecking away no matter what. Today, I had two deer trying to stare me down in my own yard. I think that they are near sighted. They are harmless, but they spend a lot of time trying to get you in focus.. hence the stare. They have no respect for me calling for them to leave. Dixie doesn’t even see them. I know that she is visibly impaired, but she also doesn’t sniff them. I think that she has an olfactory deficit. I can drop a piece of food and she doesn’t try to sniff around for it.  But on the other had, she did find a chicken bone on our walk the other day.  Maybe she just has selective smelling.
