ON THE BACK BURNER

When our kids went from a crib to a big girl or big boy bed, we would put up guard rails around the side of the bed, so that they wouldn’t roll out. I don’t remember how much they cost, but probably not all that much. Well, Dixie sleeps in my bed and she moves around a lot. The bed is over a platform, and pretty high, and is a storage unit when the mattress is lifted up. I can’t lift it. some trailers have hydrolock lifts for this storage space, so I can’t be the only one who can’t lift the mattress and open the top at the same time. That is not where I am going with this  ...it’s about Dixie and falling off of the bed and doing serious harm . I priced side rails at Amazon and comparison shopping, priced them at WallMart. Some fancy side rails were upwards into the several hundreds and the inexpensive ones that I wanted , were nearer to $40 and $50 . No way. What about $20 , tops. Unlike our last two dogs, who were money pits, Dixie has been pretty economical. But $ 40 for one side rail? Right now, I have several pillows tucked around her side of the bed. That works and may be a permanent solution. the local GoodWill doesn’t carry furniture, so I can’t look there . I was hoping to go into Sequim( Squim) ,the next larger town, but their Covid count is not as good as Port Townsend, which is usually 1 or sometimes as high as 3, so I am not leaving my bubble, to check out side rails at their GoodWill. I like having Dixie in the bed with me, but I find that I wake up during the night to check on her. This doesn’t make any sense,so maybe I will have to put the cost of side rails on Dixie’s running account.
