ON THE BACK BURNER

This was an extraordinary day for me. I had Two Zoom’s. That would have been more special if my Zoom connection was working properly. My screen froze and unfroze, it knocked me out,let me back, knocked me out. My Grandson thinks it may have been the wind.  whatever it was, I was not happy about it. I consoled myself by baking.  White bread for sandwiches, starter for foccasia for tomorrow’s baking and a dozen English muffins. I only ate one English muffin ! I had to test them before I shared. While the doughs were doing their thing, I watched YouTube. I am fascinated by Homestead shows. People who  left the grid and are self sustaining. Makes me want to grow something. My son and I are going to share a small plot of space for growing veggies. I want to plant everything that I like. He is more sensible , and reminds me that we are in the northwest and there are many, if not most of the veggies ,that just don’t do well here. So now, I am down to garlic, arugula, green onions, and for fun, I want to try some potatoes. Over the last few days, we emptied a trailer full of mulch and my DiL pushed a wheelbarrow full of manure for three camilla plants I am putting in. I had no idea that camellias would grow here, but they do and my DiL had three just resting in her plant nursery  . And , most importantly, the deer don’t eat them. And mentioning deer.. I am beginning to see young bucks with their new racks roaming around the neighborhood. Dixie would love to catch one. She bounces out the door , barking and very excited, never even getting close. However, she can come right up to one on our walks and she doesn’t notice them, but they see her and freeze. I guess if they aren’t in our yard, she just isn’t interested.
