ON THE BACK BURNER

We broke our fast outdoors after spending Yom Kippur with our internet. These are not usual times. Because I couldn’t connect with my congregation, I ended up watching services live from Philly. I wanted to hear the sound of the shofar live and not recorded. Since I am 3 hours  time zone  from Philly, and my grandson was also 3 hours distant from his congregation outside of DC, we stayed on east coast time and broke our fast here in Port Townsend on west coast time. That is why we were able to eat outdoors, while the sun was still shinning. Confusing , but these are unusual times. Even our break fast was unconventional. Home made borsht, home  made breads, home made apple cider and home made cookies. No matched dishes. Soup out of the pot, bread ready to be hunked off, cider right out of the press, face masks when not eating. It was a very unusual break fast. But  all things considered, it was perfect..
