ON THE BACK BURNER

My grass is growing. Some of it has to be seen with a microscope, but you can actually see the green fuzz. I am vey excited about this. Of course, I was reminded that soon I will have to mow this grass. That’s OK with me, since that is one of my responsibilities at the compound. My Grandson spent Saturday stacking firewood for the winter. It gets delivered and dumped in your yard. The rest is up to you. It looks very professional, stacked neatly in rows. Then it gets covered with a tarp to keep it reasonably dry for later use. Firstly, though, you start the wood burning stove with last years dried wood. There is a system for everything.I spent the late afternoon watering the trees. There is a system to this ,too. Every tree gets 20 minutes of watering. I actually use a kitchen timer . The timer is mostly to remind me that I have the sprinkler on. Last Thanksgiving , we planted and dedicated a tree in Bob’s memory. This year, it surprised us with 7 apples. We call the tree Bob. We’ll eat one of the apples on Bob’s birthday, September 15 , ripe or not. On second thought, we will eat an apple when my Grandson ,who is in Alaska, comes back to Port Townsend, around the middle of September. He was one of apple hole diggers.
