ON THE BACK BURNER

Just like in real old times, I am making my son’s lunch. He was furloughed at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, but was called back to work this week. Since no restaurants around him are opened, and he wouldn’t go out for lunch anyway, I offered to make his lunch, if he would buy the makings.  For an extra treat, I even made some brownies, which he didn’t discover until he came home after work. Made them that much more enjoyable. Surprise! I even put a dog biscuit in his bag, which is an old family joke tradition from when the kids were taking sack lunches to school. Evanston didn’t have lunch programs until Jr. High for many years. Our two oldest actually took a city bus to come home for lunch and go back for afternoon classes. They were in first and third grades. That is just an indication of how things have changed. Mom’s were supposed to be home at lunch,or have a reliable adult at home to make their lunch. Maybe they were even suppose to pick them up at school? I guess that I didn’t get that message. Now  I have so much to do in the mornings. Take out Dixie Cup, make a sack lunch for an adult,be ready for my daily talk with my daughter in Israel and maybe a 7 am Zoom for a discussion with my JCV Zoomies. It’s a full life and I relish it.
