I knew what was going to happen the minute I saw her little behind move briskly past the decorative fence we have next to my garden. It was 4:30, the time that I usually take her for her afternoon walk. I was sitting on the
deck steps separating my recyclables for tomorrows pick up. I should have been acting on what I knew was happening. Instead , I finished the sorting. Then I called for her. She always comes when I call her. I knew right a way what was happening. She took herself
for a walk. I went out onto our street and looked to the right. That was the morning route. And there she was, a block and a half away having crossed a pretty active street, going for a walk.I called once,
she heard me, turned around and started running toward me. Then I thought ,”Oh ,dear God, let there not be any cars”. There weren’t and she ran back just so happy ,hot and a little breathless. The little stinker. From now on, at 4:30, she
better have her leash on or she will take her own walk.
