ON THE BACK BURNER

Well, maybe Dixie isn’t so smart. She always slept on my bed. The night of the fireworks, she was on the bed and she got so anxious , trembling and acting frenzied, and wanting to get off of the bed , quickly. Now, she won’t get on the bed. She associates the fireworks with the bed. Even after 5 days. She is very suspicious of me when I say that I am going to bed. On the other hand, she knows where we live. I walk her on a path right outside of our door. It goes through a wooded area and then we come to a gravel road with a few houses. We turn left and go to a continuation of a walking path. It is very pretty, shaded, few walkers, a couple of dog walkers and beautiful flowers, that I can’t identify. This is a short path,we turn around and reverse our walk . I always try and see if she knows where to turn into our path and she always does. That’s good to know in case she ever decides to take a solo walk. Last week someone, who will not identify themselves, threw their chicken bone into our fire pit. Dixie keeps going to the pit, trying to crawl over the side to get to the bone. Only I didn’t know it was a bone in there. It looked like lumps of charcoal to me. That devil worked until I found her with the bone in her mouth. At least she has perseverance. I took the bone from her and threw it in the woods. Mistake.dog gone if she didn’t go find it and brought it home. I guess she is smarter than I give her credit for.I am not the one who threw the chicken bone in the fire pit.
