Today is the longest day of the year. Actually, it seemed as long as most days. Maybe if it had been sunny,I would have noticed more. When the day starts out grey and is still grey at 9:30 pm , there doesn’t
seem to be much of a change. Our cottage in Michigan was on the invisible border of Central day light saving time and eastern day light saving
time. And it seemed to stay light for hours. We would wait until it got dark to light our fire pit ,but some of us wanted to go to bed before the some more’s were ready.Last one on the beach had the
responsibility of dousing and stirring the fire before they came up to the cottage. I never volunteered to do the dousing. My job was to make it up the stairs and turn on a light so that the rest of the family
could make it up without falling.That light ruined the mystic of darkness and fire. Somebody had to break the spell.
