ON THE BACK BURNER

I’ve had Dixie for two weeks and I have watched her  develop into an affectionate pet. She is feeling so much better now that she is on medications and her digestive tract is healing.  Today, Dixie and I spent several hours , me with a face mask, sitting on a blanket, under a beautiful tree, more than 6 feet from  a friend, listening to another friend play her oboe. She and her husband played several duets for us and then she played solo for a few selections. Dixie sat on the blanket and later fell asleep as we listened to the music. I have to confess that Dixie and I joined my friends with the understanding that if Dixie barked and was a disturbance, I would leave with her. I was so anxious to share this treat of fresh air and the company of my poker playing friends  , that I gave Dixie a calming chew that my Vet had given me.Dixie was so calm, that I thought I killed her. She zonked out. I had to watch her tummy to check that she was still breathing. I don’t think that I will have to give her any calming meds the next time we enjoy such a wonderful afternoon.I underestimated her. SorryDixie.
