ON THE BACK BURNER

Another Friday, another rainy day. Three Friday’s in a row.. rain. Shabbat is here and we decided that it feels like a day at Sandlake, our Michigan cottage. Everyone sitting around the house when the weather was either rainy or snowy and cold. Books being read or comic books, the windows steamy from something cooking on the stove. Our furnace was built into the wall and we always thought it had a heart beat. It would tick as it kicked in and then send the kid sitting in front of it a blast of hot air. That was the best seat in the house. One of the kids even whittled a small, low stool to sit on, next to the furnace. That furnace blew up in my face once. The pilot light went out and you had to take a long match and try to light the pilot while holding down some piece of the furnace.  Bob usually did it, but for some reason, Only I was there  with some of the kids. Our daughter had just gotten her drivers license and had to drive me to the nearest local clinic. I burnt a hand and I think that I lost some eye brow. That was exciting.Sometimes it is good to just sit quietly and remember things that are tucked away in your head. Shabbat Shalom from Jerusalem.
