ON THE BACK BURNER

Day 5 pf camp

Back at base.Such uncertainty . This  virus has any large groups cancelling, including the Chabad from Venice. I was looking forward to seeing some friends. Now they are not sure that  they will come independently or not. As of now, one Grandchild cancelled bis trip and another may not be able to come . My trip back to camp was interesting. They say that the national bird of Israel is the crane, and they are right. There is  building everywhere and those huge crains are also everywhere. The  building next to my daughter still looks like a bomb site. Those poor apartment owners have been left with court battles against the contractor and because he can, the contractor is suing the owners. What happened here is that a contractor will propose to the owners that he will earthquake proof the building at no expense to them and...... build a balcony or extra room, or some incentive that they approve. In return, he , the contractor, will have building rights to the roof for a luxury pent house, which he will sell and pocket the several million dollars that he will sell it for. Something wen5 wrong from the start of the project and the owners are left with boarded up windows, ibars poking out of the ground, a metal fence around the  building, etc. It looks terrible and nothing can be done until somethings are settled.

At the central bus station  this morning, where I was taking the bus back to camp, I watched a young soldier take a container out of his back pack. It looked the size of those protein powder containers. He took  his tiffilin   out and put it on and started dovening . There is something different about seeing a young soldier with a gun hanging down his shoulder, putting on tiffilin, in a bus station , and no one bats an eye.

As I got near to my destination  , I noticed road signs for streets. I especially likes La Guardia Street.

Back at camp, we saw that our numbers are really down. Two groups were combined and we have 12 total. We started working immediately. Our work is important and I only hope that the field medical supplies are not needed for a long time. If they are, they are complete for surgery in the field. I really do feel a responsibility   that everything that should be in those containers is. I could be saving a life.
