ON THE BACK BURNER

Day 3.

The biggies from the Army base and the Sar El executive director came to speak to us today. They expressed their appreciation for our coming, our working and that our leaving( not me)was a decision not hastily done.  I heard that the big guys never visit the volunteers, so this was special. Those of us with USA and Canadian passports can stay. if you flew El Al, the airline will honor your ticket. That is a huge relief for some of the people who thought that they would have to pay a penalty for leaving early. My work today was as hard as yesterday. Only now ,we had to separate vials of morphine and repack them into plastic to protect them. And then pack them into 83 boxes that had other medical supplies. The final job was then to seal the completed 83 boxes in a plastic wrap and hot seal the opening , so everything was reasonably waterproof. My team of 3 women was so efficient, that we finished our day at 2:30. Not being shirkers, 2 of us cleaned the two bathrooms and the dorm  kitchen. That is something we are expected to do after every group prepares to leave. It wasn’t that big of a deal. And we felt very righteous.

We had a closing ceremony for those 15 who are leaving . Did I say that the Army General gave us all water bottles as a gift.? That worked for me because I didn’t remember to bring one.
