ON THE BACK BURNER

First full day.

One of the four of us snores and it wasn’t me. A room mate who had trouble sleeping, said that she tried to regulate her breathing to the one who snored to see if it calmed her. She couldn’t keep  up. Breakfast was the same as last nights dinner. If you are lactose intolerant, you would have a problem. Cottage cheese, cream cheese, tomatoes, cukes, yogurt, bread and wait for it...halvah.. chocolate and plain. Instant coffee. Did I say that I brought my own ground coffee and a filter. There were scrambled eggs, powered eggs. Not complaining. That is what is served breakfast and dinner. There was a flag raising ceremony. We learned how to stand like military. Because this was a mostly national holiday, due to the third time that they were voting here in Israel, we had a half day of work. And it was work. It sounds simple to take things wrapped in plastic bags , separate them and then put them in like boxes. These were medical supplies that will go out to the field and to times that the Israelis are the first at a disaster site. There were unending boxes to do this with.Needles, alcohol ,intubation supplies, burn packs, heat blankets,on and on. You do get the idea that you are doing work that will be needed and when it is, everything has to be there. After separating and sorting, we had to pallet the boxes, wrap in stretchy stuff like suran wrap  so it doesn’t get wet and put them in the storage shed. It was actually real physical work. Then lunch at noon. Now this was a winner. Meat,  chicken, rices, veggies, fresh salads, fresh fruit .( persimmons and tangerines). This called for a nap since we didn’t have to report again until 2, when we had the first of two lectures from participants in the Sar -el program. Dinner at 6 and because this was a day when we didn’t go back to work after lunch, we will have another program.
