ON THE BACK BURNER

I have so many well wisher for my upcoming trip to Israel. I wish that some of them could come along with me. Am I afraid to be in Israel ? No more than being at certain areas of Chicago. I fully expect to be safe. I am more concerned with getting sick from the recirculated  air on my planes. I am excited to bond with the people who will be sharing my experiences on an IDF base. Can you picture me in an army uniform? I am bringing a belt because I know I will need to hold up my pants. I heard from my daughter that I, as a foreigner, may not be able to do the 10k walk in the Jerusalem Marathon, because of the coronavirus. I don’t feel like a foreigner when it comes to Israel. I hope this isn’t true. My daughter also told me that the spring flowers are blooming in the dessert. That is one of the things that I wanted to see. I hope that I am not too late. I want to be in Israel for Purim. I am expecting it to be a little like a Mardi Gras, costumes, treats, parties. I’ll see if reality meets my expectations.Once Bob and I went to a costumed Purim party. Bob stapled pages from the telephone yellow pages to his clothes and went as a phone book. Some people didn’t get it. We thought that it was hilarious because one of the things we did when we traveled is look in phone books to see if there were any Uchitelle’s in them.
