Today is just like I like it. Grown kids ,grandkid, barking dog, iPads dinging, phone ringing, kitchen disorganized.
Perfect. And , all of us fit in my small kitchen. That didn’t surprise me because there is nothing that I can’t cook, for no matter how many people in this kitchen. My kitchen in Evanston had been 3 rooms. It was an old Victorian
house and it had a butlers pantry, a large kitchen , a separate breakfast room and a separate pantry. Our breakfast room had a picnic table with the benches. The pantry had mice and the butlers pantry was useless. After a few years, we broke down all of the
walls and made one huge kitchen. If I did it today, there would be an island. I don’t think that islands were invented yet.The picnic table went outside and the round table and 6 bentwood chairs came in. That table is still in the family. The 3 rd generation
is using it! Thinking about that large kitchen , which we used for 35 years, makes me realize that it really was not that functional by todays ideas. I did not have a lot of counter space and my dishwasher was portable. The walls had a jungle scene wall paper
( sorta overpowering as I think back) that I put up myself. I also did the ceramic backsplash. I am ,if nothing else, handy. I felt that I had to make up for my family that didn’t even own a hammer.
