ON THE BACK BURNER

I really like to hear Christmas carols on the old fashioned radio stations. I found a station that plays all day, every day since before Thanksgiving, no commercials  Christmas carols. This was in Port Townsend. I guess that they know their audience. Me among them. I have my favorites. Alvin the chipmunk works. My all time favorite is “All I want for Christmas is you”. The song from Love Actually. That gets stuck in my head and that’s it until I go to services on Shabbat and our Cantor’s song gets to replace it. When I was a kid and the school program had the student body singing Christmas carols, I would sing up until the word Jesus. No one at home told me to do that, but some where in my soul, I knew that I was Jewish and I wasn’t comfortable saying the Word Jesus. Now that I think about it, it was crazy , but that was what happened. That just is an example of what unspoken messages can do to a kid. I’m glad that I got over that and I can belt out the carols with any recording artist.   I haven’t found a local station here that plays carols. I’ll keep looking. After all it is only 22 days until Christmas. I have time.
