ON THE BACK BURNER

I am so looking forward to Thanksgiving. I think that I am also looking forward to some cooler weather . That will remind me of Thanksgiving in the Midwest. This year, i have been delegated to make stuffing. I already sent in my shopping list. It is the same old fashioned stuffing that my Mother made. She  was not an especially good cook, but some things she excelled in. Stuffing was one and fried chicken another. All of our veggies came from a can. That is why I like the string beans at a certain chain restaurant. Their beans are right out of a can, nice and mushy, seasoned with onions and probably ham. We would have had butter and oil.  I always order the string beans when I go to that restaurant. Living in N.O. , we always had great French bread which we used for the stuffing. Salt and a lot of pepper. It ‘s all about the black pepper.  And along with me not knowing that asparagus could actually be bought fresh and not from a can,I didn’t know that there was such a thing as fresh cranberries. Now I love fresh cranberries. A real treat for me is fresh cooked cranberries spooned into a glass of buttermilk. I know, you cringe, but I like buttermilk. And black olives. The colossal black olives that come in a can. No taste, but I love them. That is what Thanksgiving is really all about .Family, friends,or just being quiet. What ever works for you is what is good.
