ON THE BACK BURNER

I did my usual visit to the Sarasota National Cemetery on Sunday and I was surprised by how few people were there. Since it was a holiday Sunday, I expected more cars and more visitors. I like it when it is quiet , but I was still surprised. Then I went to our favorite state park, Mayakka and found that there were not as many people and cars there either. But I did see something that brought back old Chicago memories. the reason that it wasn't yet crowded is that the scouts had come early and placed folding chairs in parking spaces to save those spots for the family  to come later. We saw that all of the time in Chicago , after a snow., or before a snow , when it was predicted. Especially after a heavy snow when you had dug out your car and by God, that was now your space. Even if you had to protect it with old folding chairs. Seeing this same thought processes in Southwest Florida was pretty funny.  The license plates were all Floridian , but I bet the drivers of the cars came from Chicago. I should have stopped and asked. I would only have had to say," Cubs or Sox" and I would know everything that I had to about the drivers. I should have. I will next rime I see  two chairs in a parking space.
