ON THE BACK BURNER

I had a bunch of firsts today. I brought three giant bags of " stuff" to the donation section of Good Will. I noticed a line of  people waiting to get into the front door. I was planning to go to the cemetery to visit Bob, but felt that I should check out the line. This was a special 50 o/o off day. How could I not stay , join the line, talk to a few intense Good Will shoppers and visit Bob later. I met some  very interesting people. And saw a couple from our synagogue in the back of the line. The store manager came out to give us a pep talk on being kind to each other  . I  heard that the police had been called to another special sale that they had. Some people did not play well with others. The store opened and I was one of the lucky ones who got a shopping cart. I really wasn't interested in anything particular, so I just browsed the isle, checking out what people were so crazed to buy. $ 52.00  later,I left for the Sarasota National Cemetery. That too, was different. I usually go first thing in the morning. The visitors are sparse. In the middle of the day, there were more people and a different species of mourner. Nearby Bob's grave , a woman, had set up a lawn  chair. She was sitting in the hot, Florida sun, no shade, no hat, no umbrella... reading a book. As I was leaving, I saw a woman sitting beside a grave stone, right on the grass.I imagined that she was sharing her week with her loved one. I am going back to my early morning special time at the cemetery.  I really don't share well, either, and I like the place mostly to my self and Bob.
