ON THE BACK BURNER

I am looking around my condo and I can count 4 pieces of furniture that I brought from our original home in Evanston. Everything else is thrift store. I have a desk that we bought even before we moved to Evanston. It cost $25 at Salvation Army store in Chicago. I didn't like it when we bought it and I still don't like it. Bob did. It is not practical as a desk. It falls òver when you lean on the writing part. it looks good, but impractical. Then we / I have the double bed. Most couples have queen or king beds. This is an old fashioned double bed that needs refinishing. I don't do that because a child says that I would ruin it if I did. The bed came from a antique/ junk shop on Howard Street in Chicago. I don't want to upset my child, so I won't refinish it. Then I have a beautiful chair that was from Bob's home. His mother needle pointed the cover. This is something that I love. I use the chair, even though it should be for looking and not sitting. My rule of house is that everything has to be used or it is out. ( Be careful desk, you may be on the way out) The  chair is tough. It can take it. Then I have one more thing that we brought down to Florida. A beautiful glass table lamp. I even had a special lamp shade made for it , years ago. Every other   piece of furniture had a history before I bought it here in Venice. The pieces are beginning to get a story here too. That is why I like things that other people had first. The history of it makes it special to me.
