ON THE BACK BURNER

I went to my first funeral, since Bob died, at the Sarasota National Cemetery . It was the funeral of a Sisterhood member's Mother. I visit Bob's grave almost every week, but this is the first time that I was there for someone else. It was hard. The pavilion where the service was held was the same one we used. The plain wooden casket was exactly the same as the one we had for   Bob . Even some of the same people were in attendance. It wasn't as if I was reliving the day, but it was very sad for me. When I  visit Bob's grave, I am often not sad or unhappy. I go to  visit not to be sad. I feel as if it is a respectful thing to do. After all, we were together for over 65 years. He is the person who I have known longer and more intimately than anyone else. When I go to  visit the grave, I know that we were a couple until the moment he died. So I am not sad, I have wonderful memories. I really had the best.
