ON THE BACK BURNER

I think that I know why I am so emotional when a character dies in the Harry Potter books. A lot of them do and I cry when that happens. I have been rereading all seven books and by this time, I really know some of the chapters quite well. How much better can an author make a character than when the reader actually gets so involve that they cry when that character dies. I don't have a very active imagination so  I

rely on the author's words to make that magic happen . I just rediscovered Truman Capote and he does that too. You are there with him when he describes a room or an event. When I cook something outstanding, it can look beautiful on the plate, it can taste wonderful, but you eat it and it is gone. With words and imagination an author can make that meal last forever. Now that is brilliant.
