ON THE BACK BURNER

I saw Bohemian Rhapsody twice. It just happened that my daughter was in town and had been wanting to see it. I cried in the same places that I cried in the first time. I lived in an area of Chicago , after we sold our house in Evanston, that had a large gay community. We were able to buy  our condo because the original purchaser, learned who his neighbors were and cancelled his sale. Lucky us. We loved the area. Our cleaning person was a young man,who said that he left the corporate world to do house cleaning. I didn't catch on when he would complain that I was putting off refinishing our claw foot tub. He said that he didn't have time to wait around for me to get to it. I attended his funeral months later. I found a young man bleeding , sitting on our  steps one Sunday morning. As I cleaned him up, he just kept saying how hard it was to be gay. I wish that I could say that we have all learned a lot since I had those experiences. I'm not that naive .
