ON THE BACK BURNER

Mark the date. November 19. I heard my first Christmas Carol on the car radio and later, I heard another Christmas song while shopping. I like loud ,bouncy songs on the radio while I drive. Usually country western or pop things. I like some pop songs because there are three words in the whole song and by the time the song is finished, I can sing along. I don't play back ground music at home. I listen to classical while I read or knit. But the cheap music, sounds good in a car. I bounce along, trying not to speed. The problem happens when you are passing through different cities and you leave one station range and have to find another. I like "All things Considered" . The intro music just makes me remember certain places. Like our cottage in late afternoon, with the sun streaming into the kitchen. Me sweeping the sand out of the back door. I always have this picture in my head, no matter how many times I hear that melody. I didn't grow up with music in the house. Until we had a TV ,and we didn't get one until a year or two before I got married, our house was noiseless. Now I wonder if that was because at one time we were practicing Orthodox Jews,  were  there some restrictions, or was  it just that, like me, we didn't need noise around.   Guess I will never know the answer to that one.
