ON THE BACK BURNER

My day was really full. It just happened. In fact, it was mostly out of my control. I attended a session at the JCV that was very informative and pleasurable. I usually go on Sunday's to visit Bob's grave. This isn't something that is a requirement, but I like the routine. And I bring my bike and visit Maayaka State Park for a ride about. Today  was different because I attended the the program first. Later I set out for the Sarasota National Cemetery and after I turned onto the short cut road, I saw a biker, as in bicycle rider, on the side of the road, his bike on the ground, along with his two wheels. With a cell phone to his ear. I had to stop. I recognized his angst. I asked if he needed help and he said that he had two flat tires from riding over some construction waste. He was calling Uber for a ride home. I offered to drive him and his bike home to Sarasota .I figured that he had on biking shorts and a biking jersey, there was absolutely no place for a hidden weapon, so I was pretty safe. He turned out to be an engineer, biked hundreds of miles a week and supported the Legacy Trail. What was not to like. And he kept calling me " mam". I felt ancient but respected. Then I back tracked to the Cemetery. I was surprised to see a lot of official vehicles, lights flashing, directing traffic into the Cemetery. Of course, Veterans Day. I would have chosen another day to go because of the crowds, if I had remembered. The crowds to honor these veterans was overwhelming. Clergy, men and women in uniform as Honor Guards, taps.. just too much. There were  a lot of tears. Then I went to the Park  to process and restore my psyche. I'd say that I had a full day.
