ON THE BACK BURNER

I think I detected a slight hint of changing weather. I was fooled once before , thinking that I would get to wear something besides flip flops and  T shirts. I look into my two closets and see clothes that I haven't worn in several years. If I followed the advice of the guru's who say that if you haven't worn something in a year, give it a toss, that would sure clean out my closet. I found, literally found, a plastic bag filled with my shoes. It was embarrassing. I had put them away, to be taken out , I guess , at some point, and I forget I had them. To me, that is a sign that I have too many pairs of shoes. But I don't want to get rid of them. That's the problem. It's not supposed to be this way. Interestingly, I can be ruthless with clothes, but shoes have meaning to me. Could it harken back to my childhood. My Daddy was a shoe store manager on Canal Street in New Orleans. I love shoes. There must be a hidden meaning in this. Back in those days, the sales receipts were these little pieces of paper with the amount spent and the salesman name. My Daddy would sort them out at  night, at home. He let me help. Each salesman had a pile. They must have worked salary plus commission. That also may have been where I got my love of piles and love of repetitive work. And I can tell a good European shoe from a rack of shoes. Some lessons, I guess you never forget. Now back to my shoe pile...
