ON THE BACK BURNER

Another first. The first Yom Kippur services without Bob. I did pretty much OK. I never knew what would set the tears off. They just came, sorta like hot flashes. Last a few minutes and then over except for the memory of having had them.I sat on the Bimah holding the Holocaust Torah for the portion of the service when all of the Torah's were taken out of the Ark. It was very emotional for me and the tears just kept coming. That really didn't bother me. There was nothing I could or wanted to do about it. But what did distract me is that my nose started running and I couldn't disengage my hand from supporting the weight of the Torah to get to a tissue. I hope my friend sitting next to me, holding another of our Torah's didnt mind my sniffling. If he did, he was too polite to comment.
