ON THE BACK BURNER

I had another first today. The Wooden Boat Festival. Very large schooners, tall ships, smaller vessels, handcrafted canoes, beautiful kayaks , all made of wood were in the harbor. We could walk aboard some, others we could stand near, but only talk to the owners. All of the vendors were selling expensive hand tools for crafts people who made these beautiful boats, or other things only a sea person would want. It was a full day of watching a different culture. Then there was the schooner race, where 4 very large tall ships raced . Interesting to me was that our son, and Bob and I had spent a week on the tall ship, The Zodiac. I didn't think that I would some day get to see it again, this close. i was looking forward to what they call a " sail by", where the boats leave one by one from the harbor. It is supposed to be quite a sight. The wind pick up just before sail time to dangerous levels, knocking down vendors tents and blowing us around on shore, so they cancelled the sail by and the owners got to stay in the harbor overnight until tomorrow. Maybe next year ,I'll get to see a sail by. It's worth another visit to this beautiful place.
