ON THE BACK BURNER

Done and done. As far as I know, I have taken care of all of the paper work involved when you have to tell the federal, the state and every one in between that your spouse is dead. I don't hide from the word dead. He didn't pass away, although that is a gentler sounding word. Bob ,has died, his memory lives, but he is dead. Passing away sounds like there is an outside chance that he might slip back in. Ain't going to happen. So I call it , dead. I found that everyone that I worked with was very kind to me. No one made me feel as if I didn't understand what was going on. They didn't see some older woman with a briefcase full of every important piece of paper in her file cabinet  . I wanted not to have to do this again, so I brought everything from house deed to birth certificates, to death certificate. I really only needed the numbers from social security and a death certificate. But better to be prepared. And I never cried, until they said," sorry for your loss". Those are four really sad words.
