ON THE BACK BURNER

The other afternoon, before our daily rain, there was a bald eagle on the tree that we watch from our lanai. Often there is a hawk in that tree. He is our resident hawk. And he was none too happy about that eagle in his tree. He actually dived at the eagle. I was surprised that the eagle wasn't more aggressive . He just  flew circles around and had the hawk wasting energy trying to get him away from his tree.  I am beginning to think that I live in a nature preserve. I see so many birds and small animals. Even at our woodsy cottage in Michigan, we didn't see all of this wild life. If we did, it was the kind that we would rather not have as neighbors. Lots of moles who burrowed our hill, water snakes, chipmunks, many many chipmunks, and flying squirrels, a few deer that were curious, and once.. a horse. He got out of his field and decided to take a walk around the lake. We never saw anything wilder, like a bear. Not that many birds. I don't know why, although we had tons of humming birds. I think the birds around here decided not to migrate. Why leave paradise when you have a good thing going for you. We feel the same way.
