I should have been suspicious when the recipe said, " trust me on this one". The ingredients sounded good. I even had most of them ,already. strawberries and whipping cream. So far, so good. The next
ingredient is where the trust came into play. Soft white bread, specifically,"Wonder Bread". I have steered away from soft white bread for years, so I was hesitant to buy a loaf. I remembered that it was only snobbery that made me buy "artesian bread".
Like anyone was looking into my shopping cart. I remember that soft white bread and pb and j are mana on a hiking trip. So I bought the loaf to complete this dessert. I remember the bread as being pillow soft and very white. Did they change something? The
bread was ok soft but slightly yellow. I was a little disappointed. I whipped the cream, added the strawberries and spread on the bread, like the recipe told me to do. Honestly, it wasn't that terrific. A whipped cream and strawberry sandwich on whitish bread.
Not a winner in my book. Now I have a loaf of bread that I don't like and a recipe that started out with a "trust me" disclaimer. I'll be a little more cautious next time. I'll stop with strawberries and cream. Can't go wrong there.
