ON THE BACK BURNER

There are a lot of advantages to  cruising. I'd rather cruise on a road trip, but a cruise on a water way can work. The best time of a cruise for me are those first hours on board. There is just enough chaos , but orderly. The passengers are stunned by the amount of people on board, the generous food service and the fact that I can't get into my room yet.  They next excitement for me is pulling away from shore.  I like to see people on the land side waving as we go by, the large number of containers  on shore , waiting to be sent somewhere and the thought of actually having this huge vessel stay afloat and make it out to open water. I also like to watch the tug boat captain be picked up and motor boated back to shore and our captain take over. So orderly. I don't particularly like multiple days at sea. I like to watch the ship maneuver into ports and then out again.  I like to hang onto the rail and just watch people go ashore. And then come back, holding a  shopping bag of remembrances. On a ship, the crew knows what to do and they do it. Luckily, we have never been disappointed on a cruise. No one got sick,  no one fell overboard, the food was good, service was good. It's a good way to spend a few days resting and being spoiled. Maybe I'll do it again sometime.
