ON THE BACK BURNER

It might be my imagination, or wishful thinking, but I think Noodle is much more active and playful. I even think his hearing and vision is somewhat improved. Do I see some definition to his close to the ground, fat belly? I think so. I would hope that after having him for almost 10 months and with a perfect diet for him and good Vet care, he is now the best he can be. He thinks he is playing when he gets excited and runs around the house. He trips, gets up, keeps running, hits a few walls and looks like he is smiling. This lasts ,maybe 40 seconds, but is new for him. He looks happy. And about his hearing. He hears the fridge open. I swear this. He still doesn't always look where a sound is coming from. He will often look where I should be sitting, but I am not there. He doesn't change his focus. I have to break it by touching him. We still have to find him when he is asleep by clapping our hands. THis can sometimes take more time than we have patience. If we come up to him when he isn't expecting us, he gets very startled and I don't think that this is good for him. He has finally, finally learned that we will not feed him at the table. He will occasionally whine quietly, but I think he has the message now. When we have guests, he goes into his bed. He's safe there. If you get the opportunity to adopt a senior dog..Go for it. There are plenty of rewards. You have saved a dog life, you give love and get it back ,unconditionally, it's someone to listen to you talk things through when you are walking so people don't think you are crazy and you get to meet some really nice people.
