ON THE BACK BURNER

What a nice day. We went to to the Myaaka State Park again. We really like this park. I have a Golden pass for National Parks which allows me to get in free, all over the US. , but for some reason, it isn't accepted at Myaaka . We met the  same volunteer Ranger at the Bird walk as the last time we were there and during the morning , before we even got there, she had tallied up over 100 birds that she spotted. I had mentioned earlier that I had never seen a wood stork. She found one for me, but it never landed. So I guess, I can say that I saw the underbelly of a wood stork. Maybe next time. The park was full of picnicking families. Some really knew how to picnic. They brought cots and their own tables and chairs, grills, dogs, kids, Grandma and Grandpa. I wish they had invited us to join them. Looked like a great family time. That made me remember the picnics I had as a kid. We filled a big galvanized wash tub with ice from the ice house, went to the one Kosher deli in town, got corned beef and Kaiser rolls, and dill pickles. My mother made potato salad, we put bottled cokes in the ice and took off for the Bougafallia (phonetic spelling here) River Park, near Covington and Abita Springs, Louisiana, and had a great day. I would get painfully sunburned, my Mother never left the shade of a tree and my Father feel asleep on the blanket. It was perfect.
