ON THE BACK BURNER

Dang.. I washed the sliders and it rained. Now I have spots.Guess I have to do them again. Maybe the day before Passover. Why do I still feel that I have to clean for Passover. It's probably a hold over from my childhood, when we actually did change the dishes and everything else in the kitchen. I've told this before, and I only think of it around this time of year, but my Grandmother had a slave quarter attached to her house and that was the passover kitchen and storage. How many kids can say that. My Grandmother, which I've mentioned before, ran a Kosher Boarding house for men. I don't remember having strangers at our Seders, but I do remember very clearly, that at Rosh Hashonah, during the war years, she fed every service man in New Orleans. They were lined up outside of her house on Tchoupitoulas St. Where did the food came from, who washed the dishes, how could she afford it.. all questions I never knew to ask. All that I Remember is that she made the best and sweetest cherry wine, which aged under her staircase. I loved that wine.If I drank enough, watered down, I fell asleep at the Passover table and I never had to help wash the dishes. Smart kid, huh.
