ON THE BACK BURNER

I found this TV show that deals with auctioning off lockers in storage yards. The lockers are abandoned. We use to go to auctions out in the country when we were at our cottage. I always liked to start the bidding with a dollar bid. I was a big spender in those days. I also liked to bid on the mystery boxes. There were all kinds of goodies packed in some of those boxes.Sometimes it was junk, but I often  found cool things  for our cottage. We always had a lot  of fun at these country auctions. People from nearby farms would come, some people brought their lawn chairs and spent the whole day waiting for the farm equipment to come up. Church groups would have bake sales and sell coffee and the home made bakery things. The highest  I ever went was $300.00 for a complete set of sterling silver that matched my Mother's set. I should have gone higher. It was worth it. once, I bid and won on a set of green china that I knew one daughter would love. Mailing it was as much as my bid. We also had tragedy at one auction. We decided to bring our little dog ,Spot, one Saturday. The farm dog there was a hybrid wolf, which is illegal to have . It got loose from its pen and made a bee-line for Spot. He tore into Spot , who I was holding. Both of us got attacked. The dog was pulled off of us and we had to search the country side for a Vet who handled small pets, not farm animals. We had to find a micro-animal surgeon to put Spot back together again. Spot recovered with all kinds of wires and pins in his leg, I healed and the people who owned the wolf hybrid skipped town when they were presented with all of our medical bills and a citation for having that dog. That was not a usual day at an auction. We kept going to auctions until the dealers of antiques found out about our area. Then the bidding went to high to enjoy the thrill of the win. Too bad. They were a regular Saturday attraction.
