ON THE BACK BURNER

I drove to Myyaka State Park  this morning. It was beautiful. Blue , cloudless sky, water a little choppy from the wind, temperature perfect. This made me remember two wonderful week ends we had there with a group of ladies from our congregation. We hiked, eat, laughed , carved pumpkins at Halloween, had a few contests . The accommodations were rustic , no telephones, no TV, just the space, a few beds  , inadequate blankets and probably a few critters. No one complained. We sat around, we got lost in the dark going back and forth to our cabins, but it was such a simple get together, and  we were all just glad to be together.(Especially when we found our cabin).I think those two week ends morphed into the annual retreat that we now do. We can enjoy the company of three times the number of ladies.. We don't have the closeness we had when we were just a few women in 4 rustic cabins, but the feeling of friendship is still there. This is what I thought about as I sat at a picnic table, watching the sky and the water this morning. Nice thoughts.
