ON THE BACK BURNER

Tonight the Rabbi told us that we should have three things in our wallets. The first is a few dollars to be able to give to a homeless person or someone begging. I don't completely agree with this, but I understand the concept of giving. I once bought a hamburger at Mc Donald's to pass on to a man who was begging at the front of the Chicago Art Institute. He didn't want it. He wanted the money. When I was in Israel it was usual to give shekels to the first beggar that you saw as you walked. It was not only a mitzvah, but it would assure that you had a good day. That's nice. The second item to carry is pictures of your family, with your personal information. That would be to let who ever helps you when you are in distressed will know that you are part of a family, that you have connections to others. I don't carry pictures in my wallet. But I bet a lot of people have many pictures on their smart phones. Is there a place on my smart phone that gives my personal info? The third item is an organ donor card. I absolutely agree with this one. I am an organ donor, but honestly, does anyone want the organs of a 83 year old person. If they do, I'm signed up.So now, what's in your wallet?
