I did my favorite volunteer job at our congregations annual Food Festival. Garbage Pick Up. I don't know why more people don't volunteer to do it. I'm outside where the entertainment is, where the booths are, where the attendees are eating their great
Kosher style Jewish food. Everyone is usually happy ,the sky is blue and the sun is shinning. Its a dream job. I do a lot of walking around to empty the trash, I get to meet people.Because I wear a name tag, people often called me by my first name when they
asked a question that I could answer. My only problem is that the filled garbage bags had to be wrestled out of the cardboard garbage containers.Because I am a professional and I take this job seriously, and because I did it last year, I figured out a way
to get the black plastic bags out of the containers. Turn the containers on their sides and just pull the bag out. Then tie a knot in the top and shlep the bag to the huge dumpster. That was what exhausted me. I had to swing the lumpy bag into the dumpster.
Last year, I missed a couple of times. This year, I'm not rookie anymore and in the off season ,I visualized how to do it. Made it every time ! I knew the next morning that I had been really really tired and out of steam when I woke up and found
that when I went to sleep ,I had put my night gown on inside out and backwards. Maybe next year, I'll ask for another just as important job.
