ON THE BACK BURNER

This is a public service announcement. Starting Thursday, I plan to watch the Olympics ,as much as I can. It's what I do . The first time I watched the Olympics, I also watched my first hockey game. And America won.It was special and emotional, and after that, that I was hooked on the Olympics. We didn't have a TV at our cottage and our neighbors on either side of us, let us watch at their cottages. I felt a little like we were intruding on them, but since the summer Olympics only came every four years, I hoped they forget that we spent many hours sitting in their living room.  We made sure that our swim suits were dry before we sat down. At the winter Olympics, back in Evanston, we brought our little TV down from our bedroom and set it on the coffee table in front of our fireplace . Little homework got done, but it was a great bonding experience. It is bittersweet to watch the winter  Olympics for me. I can document the kids passage into adulthood with who was left at home to watch with us. Now we are two old guys watching , in retirement , in sunny Florida. It could be worse.
